Got home this morning from a whirlwind adventure to Denver, just Oak and I. My friend Heidi's wedding was FANTASTIC as expected, a beautiful second wedding to rival her first one. Actually, this one was better than her first one because her and her new dude really share chemistry. They weren't just in "wedding love", they were in LOVE LOVE. It was really cool to see. I hadn't seen her family (a second family to me during college) in a very long time and had to shake my head to clear it to see her niece and nephew all grown up, leading their own lives. It made me feel old.
You know what else made me feel old? Partying until midnight. Dang, lol. Ok, in my defense, I had a baby to hold the.entire.time with no real reprieve so that get's me a little bit off the hook. I was kicking it old school by doing the electric slide, only *I* was doing it with the baby in the sling. How's that for dedication to the old classics? I cringed in horror at the soon-to-be-seventh-grader's excitement to do the "superman" dance. It appeared that most in attendance had no idea what they were watching (or listening to) so I cringed in horror on my own. There were a couple of other line-dancy songs (only not country, ykwim) that were totally fun. I danced them all with the baby in the sling. People marvelled. I enjoyed it thoroughly. The DJ was FANTASTIC, kept people moving, made the most of the high wind trying to blow us all away. He was witty and funny, got people up when they needed up, slowed it down when we were all sweating, got the kids involved, handed over the microphone, got everyone what they needed to hear. Fantastic.
I regret not having had the chance to play Liverpool Rummy with my SIL. The timing just never worked out.
Oh, and the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is worth the cost of admission just to feed the giraffes. Pics of the horror/intense confusion on Oak's face are forthcoming (as soon as my SIL sends them to me). You buy these cracker things and walk over to where the giraffes are. The whole zoo is built on the side of a mountain on these walkways. The giraffe area is up at their head level so they can poke their heads over the railing and use their foot-long tongues to take the crackers. Well, I handed Oak half a cracker and he looked at it like "mmmm, thanks". Just then a giraffe came over and snatched it with it's slobbery slimy tongue and Oak had this look somewhere between horror and amazement. I imagined him thinking "HEY, that THING stole my CRACKER, and by the way, what IS that thing???" It was classic Oak. By the end Oak was giggling and amused at the whole adventure, handing out giraffe crackers as fast as I'd let him. The rest of the Zoo was ho-hum compared to our Zoo here, but the giraffes, those were cool.
