Stick a fork in me, and millions of other people...

I'm officially done with the elections. I can't be the only one.

This is the point where most Americans (including myself) have already made up their minds. I've done as much research as I care to do. I've listened to as much as I care to listen to from both sides. I've made a decision, and more importantly, I've made peace with my decision. Why? Because there is no longer a free exchange of ideas, no longer profound statements to give me pause, nothing more to learn, nothing more to contemplate. From here on out it's all about dirt, mud, ridiculous statements and an edginess that puts everyone on the defensive. It seems that since the VP's have been named it's all mud all the time. I'm not likely to change anyone's mind. People of a mind to debate the options are likely as frustrated and as solidly locked into one candidate as I am. People who are still undecided are standing on the sidelines watching the volley of ridiculous statements with increasing disgust, confusion, and sense of futility. No wonder people don't vote. This also means that most (if not all) polls done between now and election day aren't worth even looking at.

Of course, I feel that my candidate is getting the raw end of the stick. I think he's made more of an effort to stay on task. I think he's getting drawn off task, wasting precious breath in defending a statement he made since the media chose to make it headline news yesterday. Who knows though, maybe he's just as bad. Maybe I just can't see it. I sure hope not, but who really knows?

Someone said to me "I'm not voting for him, he's racist" when speaking about Barak Obama. My response? "I think it's about time black people had a great leader to look up to". As if racism is rare among rich white men. Do people really believe McCain has African Americans (who are really just Americans like you and me, but for the sake of clarification we'll use the pc term) at the top of his priority list? Even great leaders such as MLK couldn't make more than a dent in race relations. Maybe a president is what it's going to take to make some real progress. I hope he is racist, if by racist you mean he wants to help people with some skin color.

And on a humorous note I saw this and am determined to make it a bumper sticker, if it's not already.
