Ah, but what can I say?

It's summer. We've been floating along in this sort of crazy drifty-ness (apparently this is a made-up word since spell checker doesn't seem to like it no matter how I spell it) characteristic of the season. Our focus has recently shifted from "let's go out and play!" to "where can we go that's cool?" Today was the mall, complete with an hour in the book store (and, ahem, $40 later...). We attempted to stop at this really cool park my kids call the "rocket park" because of the rocket-themed play equipment, but it was so. darn. hot. and MUGGY. Ugh. I found myself wishing it would rain. Even though the mugginess returns right after the sun shows itself again, at least it scrubs out the moisture for a little while, until it all steams back into the air again.

In other family news, I can't say whether Toby is getting better or not. He's still really REALLY skinny, but he does eat. I'm afraid to take him walking and such because I don't want to risk a visit from the Humane Society. We have the best quality food, he goes through a 50 pound bag every 4-5 weeks. It's not that he's not eating, he's just sick. Add to that the fact that we have essentially taken the vet out of the equation after he sort of shrugged and said "I don't know what else to do for him". I'm sure a visit from the Humane Society (largely unlikely since they're WAY understaffed, lol) would result in "has he seen a vet, can we see proof", which of course would be difficult since he hasn't in a couple of months. It would all be sorted out quickly, but still a nuisance. Really, though, the likelihood is very slim. Perhaps I've just watched too much of Animal Planet and TLC reality pet shows.

Another post will follow this one with OTHER other family news. It's a novel though so I thought I'd give faithful readers the chance to skip it entirely if they want, lol.
