Well, it's not a totally done deal. Adopting a puppy is like having children. Until you hold them in your arms in your own living room you feel vulnerable. BUT, this shelter is holding him for me through Friday so I have a snowball's chance at getting to bring him home. The only catch is that I may have to come back for him if they can't get him neutered this week. Otherwise he'll come home with us Friday. I'll love him and squeeze him and hug him and call him... . Hmmmm, what to call him?
He's a giant schnoodle. At 3 months old he's over 20 pounds. He's going to be a BIG boy. And I'm glad. I am so excited. I have to get the house clean and puppy-proofed by then. I also need to put fence erecting plans into motion. This will be just the push dh needs to finally do it.
Oh, oh, oh, oh, did I mention how happy I am?
Revised shopping list:
pooper scooper
dog crate (he'll be crate trained)
dog bed (BIG dog bed)
Tall puppy food dishes
water thingie
collar
name tag
NAME (ok, that's free, but still)
leash
Ooohh, happy thought! I'll never have to sweep the floor again!

things you want before you even buy food. also, since he is a puppy, I suggest you skip the bed...unless you find an uber cheap one. Beds are great things to EAT. Puppies eat stuff. Even well trained ones.
Also, get a leash that you can attach to yourself. the best way to train a puppy (from all my research), is attachment training. If the puppy is not in the crate, he should be on a leash attached to your waist. THis will save you a ton of money. trust.
