Don't alert the children to the fact that you've caught on to their abilities. You see, right at this exact moment they are playing. They are not only playing, they are playing nicely. TOGETHER. UPSTAIRS. And, not only that, but they put the baby to sleep in the Amby first by swinging him. I overheard them saying "shhhh, let's go upstairs so we don't wake up Oak". What???? Did I hear that correctly? Yes. Yes I did. The moment I acknowledge the absolutely fabulous choices and behavior the magic will lift. What a catch 22. Say something and the magic pops like a bubble. Don't say something and miss the opportunity to encourage future good behavior like this. It's a dilemma I'm happy to be involved in.
Next, laundry tips. Laundry in my house is a huge issue. We have SO MANY CLOTHES. Well, partly due to the sheer number of people. But mostly we have too many clothes. So, due to the new dresser being on location, I'm in decluttering mode. My plan is to stuff the drawers and one by one empty them and go through them.
Lesson number 1 is: reduce the number of outfits. The general consensus is 10. So, as soon as the clothing is sorted by child I will assist in having them pick out 10 outfits. I don't even care which ones. Just pick.
Lesson number 2 is: if you're a piler/dumper embrace it. Don't fight it. I HATE folding wee baby clothes. It makes no sense. They don't fold well. They don't stack well. And I am a piler, a dumper. So, I stole all of the cloth bins I had planned on using for socks and underwear and am now using them for Oak's clothing. I dumped all of his shirts in one big unfolded pile in one bin. Pants in another. One-piece outfits in another and finally hats, socks and misc in yet another. I am already in love with this method of baby clothes wrangling and I don't have to stinking fold every little bitty shirt.
Slowly but surely the house is coming together, and I owe it all to that little guy in my last post. Here's to hoping it stays this way!
