Well, the little doggie who fell into my proverbial lab is not meant to be mine. I know he is going to a good home, I just wish it was mine. Someday my (paw)prints will come and until then I am frantically ready-ing the house just in case another falls into my lap like this one did. I've also resolved that this is the LAST dog I will ever adopt. From now on I will buy from reputable breeders. The adoption process is so fricking ridiculously stupid that it's absolutely NO wonder to me why people do not choose this option. The shelters are poorly run and claim to have the animal's best interests at heart but then make decisions contrary to that stance just to not have to admit to a mistake. The rescue groups are above and beyond controlling in many cases, often wanting to do a home visit and such, which I think is absolutely ridiculous. How much good could volunteers be doing if they weren't bogged down with just 2 home visits a day. You could verify families dog-worthiness and that they actually HAVE a home on the internet and by checking references. Heck, I'd call neighbors, lol. Phone numbers are easy to come by on the internet and with google maps you could contact neighbors easily enough. Just a thought. The really reputable rescue groups charge a fortune for animals who they may or may not disclose everything about. Even more of them absolutely refuse to adopt a dog out to a family with children. Who do they think adopts dogs? Single people? If you did a study I'm quite sure that you would find the majority of people adopting from rescue groups and shelters are families with children. One agency I spoke with wouldn't discuss adoption with me because I mentioned I was allergic and needed to have a poodle or a low/no dander mix. Why that became an issue for them I never got an answer to. It's not that they don't have animals listed like that, just that I was being too picky or something. And oh, did I want a beagle? Um, NO. Freaks.
The one agency I'm willing to work with THIS TIME is Paws for Consideration. The seem to be reputable, were incredibly helpful with the latest fiasco which I'm sure nobody wants to hear about again and they don't charge more than the vet care does. That seems reasonable. She's got me on the list looking for a labradoodle or a goldendoodle and doesn't anticipate a long wait. Apparently they've fallen out of fashion but were popular not long ago. They look like muppets and I can't wait to have my very own. I would love a medium-large chocolate colored one, or maybe a sentimental apricot color. Really, if the eyes are twinkly with spunk and mischief and if they are at least well on the way to being house trained (crate trained would be an added bonus) I will be thrilled.
The Monster Truck Jam is tonight and Finn is bouncing around going "is it time yet?" "is it time yet?" "is it time yet?". Dustan and the boys don't get to go thanks to the flu :( poutpoutpout. Oh well, there'll be another one. I was able to sell the tickets to a family who recently lost their home to a fire and the 7 year old is thrilled to have the opportunity to take his mind off of things for a time. I'm glad the tickets are going to them, though I don't recommend Craigslist as a ticket selling option. I sure opened the floodgates with that listing. The phone is ringing off the hook still, lol. Crazy!
