Ahh, the day to day of working poor

Payday yesterday, totally broke today, lol. Actually, technically, today was payday. Ah well, we'll survive. We always do.

There are pumpkin pies in the oven. Mmmmm. I hope they make it to the fantabulous gathering tomorrow. Sticky cake is set to go in too. That one may make it too, if y'all are lucky.

Dh is upstairs reading to the children. The book of choice for the indefinate future. The Day My Butt Went Psycho. Yes, Finn got this for Solstice for daddy to read aloud. They're loving it. Next in the series? Zombie Butts From Uranus. I kid you not.

Oak is sickie. Lots of green goo coming from tiny holes in his face. His eye is watery/goopy too. Poor babe. It always get watery when he has a cold. And I think the American government thinks parents are stupid or something. So they banned/recalled baby cold medicine right? Well, they still have children's version. If you can do math, you can figure out how much to give your BABY. So a 24lber gets a teaspoon. If my baby is 13 pounds that's just a hair over half of 24lbs therefore, I can give him HALF a teaspoon. Perhaps that's the grand ploy, maybe they're not so dumb after all. This way only smart-ish people will give their babies cold medicine since they'll have to do math! The stupid people will just have sick babies??? I still don't get the whole recall reasoning, but whatever. I went the easier route and bought the dissolving strips. A 24lber gets a whole strip. So, again, my 13lber gets... HALF a strip. Nice. He's breathing for the first time in 4 days from his nose. Next on the agenda, a good nights sleep.

Dang those pies smell good. I suuuuurrreee hope they make it to tomorrow.

Tomorrow is quilting day at Dannielles. And a good time will be had by all. I am quite excited since I love getting together and last time I saw Dawn she had the slightest of poochy baby tummies. I bet she's got a verifiable bump now. Can't wait to rub it and say "HI BABY" really loud so it can hear me.

There were police cars behind our house in the alley a few minutes ago. This wouldn't be unusual except that we don't have an alley. It's a dead-end easement that probably used to be an alley at one time but is now mostly weeds and long grass. In the summer I'm not sure you'd be able to get 2 police cars back there. They sat both shining lights on something, going back and forth from someplace I couldn't see to the cars for about an hour. No body bags or anything interesting so who knows what that was about. I thought about calling and saying "hey, there are 2 cops behind my house in the non-alley. It's late. I've got little kids which I can use as an excuse to be nosy. What're they doing?" Dh said I couldn't call. Party pooper. I'm going to go nuts with wonder. They've been on our street a bunch the last few weeks. Nothing exciting, just pulling up on the other side of the street, hanging out for 10 minutes, then leaving. Dh says someone was growing pot behind their house. I said "darn, we coulda tried it for free". He just looked at me oddly and then kissed me. Probably to get my mind back to here and now since clearly it had just left me for a time.

Mmmmmmm, Pie. Suuuuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeee hope it makes it to tomorrow.

"They changed the vacation policy" says dh to me over the phone. I groaned. Nooooo, I said. Not another change. This one was good though. He now has just over a work week of vacation to take any time between February 1st and the end of the year. Wahoo! Next year he jumps to 11 days of vacation. Sweet! He said "now don't go getting any big ideas". I said "like what??? Like MAYBE WE CAN TAKE A VACATION?" Yeah, like that, he said. OMG, why would I have an idea like that (complete with half fainting pose with the back of my hand on my forehead, Scarlett O'Hara style). I immediately began googling. He suggested we work on the house. I laughed. And laughed. And laughed.

Oak likes cheerios.
