Unfortunately the title of this doesn't allude to new counter tops or anything exciting like that. In fact, today was entirely marbled in it's goodness and badness. Currently we're ending on a badness note. You see, Winnie is in the kitchen at the table, where she's been since 6:30 (3 hours!). What could cause such a sweet girl to be in such a situation, you ask? The answer may shock you. Then again, if you have children, it may not. 3 tablespoons of squash. Delicious, organic, buttery, slightly salty, really sweet Acorn squash. 3 tablespoons. Of squash. 3 hours. Finn held out over his 3 tablespoons for about 2 hours and 18 minutes (but who's counting). Zella was still napping at the start of dinner and by the time she came down I figured nobody would notice if I didn't even GIVE her squash. I wasn't prepared for that battle with a 2yo. Bad mama, but 2 stubborn kids in one night is plenty for me.
Oak won't sleep more than 15 minutes in a stretch. Why that is I wish I knew. He seems to go in these cycles. What causes them? The moon? My hormones? What??? If I could find out I'd write a book because surely I'm not the only one to deal with this.
On a more positive vein, I caulked the bathtub all by myself! It was fun actually. I definitely had a learning curve and might need to redo a seam that didn't get a thick enough bead I don't think, but now that I know how to do it, peace of cake! This means that I'll be able to take a shower next week after we return from Ohio.
Another very VERY large vein of happiness, I did something so incredible, so amazing, so very very incredible. I wish to shout it from the rooftops. I MADE BREAD. More importantly, I made GOOD bread. It WORKED. It rose. It poofed down. It rose again. It baked. It turned a nice brown color. The kids learned that the bubbles in bread are caused by yeast eating sugar and then releasing gas. Neall explained this in a very kid friendly manner. The bubbles in bread are YEAST POOTIES. Nice huh? Can't wait for them to share that tidbit with somebody important and tight laced. Good thing there isn't anyone like that where we're visiting in Ohio hee-hee. Anyway, my success is sweet. I also made the above mentioned squash and a double batch of banana bread. It's such good banana bread that I may not even bother putting some in the freezer. I doubt it will last that long. The bread recipe was 4 loaves which I seperated into 2 small loaves, a big loaf and a bunch of rolls.
All that cooking had my newley spotless kitchen covered in flour but it was worth it. There was a chill in the air that was nice to fight off with the oven. The news tonight is speaking of record HIGH temps this week. WTH? I liked the chill in the air.
Well, booby baby is in need of my attention so my musing will have to continue at another time. Find some of Dannielle's recipes on her blog (Princess Nimble Thimble) and try them for yourself.
