Hm. That's me in a nutshell today. Just hm. We have oficially started down the slippery slope to rock bottom. Our house is entering foreclosure. We still have time to work with, but with no money even on the horizon we're sort of stuck waiting and hoping something works out. We have shutoff notices for everything. The internet will disappear anytime now though we will get to keep our phone and thus dial up through my bil's company. Not such a big deal, high speed is a luxury item anyway. I still don't feel all out crazy with fear for the future. Maybe I should? No news from any of the job fronts. We did find several new listings for positions through a company Neall hasn't signed up with yet. We shall see if those pan out and pan out QUICKLY. This industry appears to be stuck in slo-mo or something. Nobody in a hurry to do anything. He was dealt a crushing blow yesterday when he learned from a 3rd party that the only other person not yet working from his class got the 4th position at a company he'd interviewed with and called repeatedly. This brings me to my real blog-post message.
Our society breeds mediocrity. Here dh busts his arse, sacrifices a lot, asks us to sacrifice (which we gladly do for the greater good), all for the sake of 4.0 gpa, strong skills, real solid knowledge and understanding of chemistry. His classmates, most of whom passed the course with a C average, who came to him for help in class ... they're all working. Not only are they working, they're working for 10k more a year than dh has a chance of getting anywhere else in the field. I told Neall to quit being negative when he stated the concern for being "too qualified". I thought it was hogwash. I thought surely any company would want the top of the class. Why would you pay premium money to a candidate who BARELY passed when the guy at the top of the class is calling every other day to see if you're scheduling interviews? I fail to see what circumstances would lead to this. Companies would rather have the middle. They don't want the slackers, but they don't want anyone with a brain either. The middle of the pack are greatful for the employment without requiring fair salaries. They're just greatful for the opportunity. Is that it? I'm incredibly disillusioned. I don't know what to do from here. Maybe we need to lighten dh's resume a bit. Take out the "graduated with honors", the 4.0 gpa, remove anything that makes him look anything but mediocre because that is apparently what employers are looking for. Dh wonders if somebody is giving him a bad reference, but he hasn't even gotten to the point of anyone calling references so I doubt that is the problem. I'm hoping that everyone on his reference list would tell him if they couldn't recommend him. To my knowledge nobody has been contacted.
So, 3 possible interviews are in the works. One was supposed to have been scheduled 2 weeks ago. I'm thinking that one is out. Another one was supposed to be schedule for "hopefully monday" but we didn't hear from them. Yet another should be contacting dh this week. Apparently recruiting is a cushy job because by noon on Friday everyone was "out of the office until Monday". Maybe dh should work for one of them, lol. Sounds like a nice cushy job for a family man. In addition to those 3 possibilities dh is applying with a placement company that has listed 4 opportunities. Dh's resume has gone off to at least one place in Ohio and on Wednesday, if we haven't heard anything from the others, it'll be more. I think renting this house wouldn't be too hard. I could live in a lean-to for the summer if I had to. My Aunt has a couple of acres, I bet we could stay there. My cousins are all really nice, I bet one of them would let us stay temporarily. My dad will be there. Anyway, that's all for another post... .
On Monday we're doing a CLEAN SWEEP. I'm inviting all my mama friends over for the festivities. I'm quite literally taking everything into the driveway and the only things coming in are things I like, that are useful. This will be a necessary evil if we have to move. Might as well do it now while dh is around huh? I might even start today. Anyone who wants to join me is welcome to. It's an open invitation. I cannot be responsible for what you find in some of the boxes though, many of them haven't been opened in ages.
We have the primer we need for the front room and the new room upstairs. WAHOO! This means, if I can get the room cleared out, that we can PAINT in here! We have front room paint already and the bedroom color picked out. The clean sweep will allow for a painting party too. You won't want to miss this. It'll be fun!
Well, how was that for a roller coaster ride of a post? I always feel better after getting the temper tantrum-y emotions onto "paper" (rofl). It's like "there, I've vented, now it's time for action".
