No really, I am! My letter to the Editor was published in the community college's newspaper (snicker, snort, like anyone reads it). . THEN, a lady who blogs about Education for Non-trad students blogged about ME. . Scroll down to the entry titled "How Do We Learn Real World Stuff". It's all about little old me. Unfortunately the ripples from the stone I cast died out about 10 feet from the point of entry. SLCC is clearly made up of traditional students. I understand that. I just don't like it, and as an adult I don't have to. I still think there could be a balance between gently easing our young people into the real world and downright coddling them.
The lady who blogged about me talks about "helicopter parents" too. I mutter about that under my breath every time I register for classes. The room is always full of parents who are dragging their teen children behind them. The kids don't make a sound, some text the entire time and pay no attention at all. The parents are always carrying the papers, asking the questions. There is no way I'd be forking down money for higher education for a kid who doesn't even care enough to hold their own schedule. I guess their presence makes my tuition lower though huh? Maybe I should thank them instead. Classes are easy as cake and tuition is low, all thanks to them.
