My claim to mommy fame, the thing that proves I'm a good mom, has been blown out of the water. 4 kids, the oldest turning 7 yesterday, and never, not once, EVER have we had an ear infection. Well, that all changed at The Most Incredible Pizza Place last night. Finn had complained yesterday of being cold a couple of times. He played normally, ate normally. I thought it was the dampness and the impending cold front. We decided to dine at the above mentioned pizza place for Winnie's birthday. We met my IL's there for some food and fun. 5 bites into dinner Finn says "my ear hurts". I finished about half my meal before he started crying. I had him lie down on the bench. It escalated to the point he was running a fever and crying/moaning loudly. My MIL and I left the party-goers to take Finn to the ER. Despite the serious overflow of people in the ER we were seen very quickly. It could have had something to do with the fact that Finn just screamed and screamed. It also could have been that my MIL is a nurse there and knew several of the ER nurses, lol. At any rate, the doc was in the room before I had dropped my stuff on the counter and they had given him some numbing ear drops to ease his discomfort. The docs exact words upon examination of his ear was "ooohh, that's not pretty". A popsicle and a dose of Motrin for his fever rounded out the treatment and he slept from then on. He slept comfortably all night so far and I'm hoping for a not too traumatic day. I have antibiotics, not sure if I'll use them yet. I have those magic ear drops. I'll definately use those. We won't be doing swim lessons on Friday either. Bummer :(.
Neall has a performance review on Thursday (his birthday) and has been sick since last week. I'm concerned for his since it seems to have settled into his chest and nothing he's taken to battle it has even touched it. He hasn't even gotten any symptom relief from the Day-Quil. Odd. And, knock on wood, none of the rest of us have gotten anything similar, so very strange. He's considering taking a half day off today. All of our money is tied up in a check that we need to cash but I can't get out with sick people, but I need the money to get some things like better med for Neall and toilet paper, lol.
Some good news is that "cooler, drier" air is here. The high of 80 today sounds fine. Mid to upper 60's for the next few days is even better.
Oh, and Winnie got a CAMERA for her birthday. She proclaimed her birthday "THE BEST BIRTHDAY EVER" last night and loves her new digi camera. Granny's birthday is this coming weekend and Winnie is quite excited to take lots of pictures.
