Tsk, tsk King of the Hill

My family is soundly sleeping (all except me and Oak, that is) and on the television at this late hour is King of the Hill (hey, I can't find the clicker and I'm too lazy to get up, lol). Bobby, the young boy, is looking for a place to belong and gets involved with a group of "pagans". I missed the beginning but the portrayal of this "pagan" group was, in a word, ridiculous. Basically it was a bunch of geeks doing stupid stuff like speaking in tongues, using crystals to make space at a table at the diner, etc... . The ending was of Bobby being chosen to drink Caninus Spiritus, which is dog blood. When he refuses the crew acts nutso and tries to curse him but Bobby just busts up laughing. I'm half amused and half sick about the lack of accurate portrayal of my religious beliefs but at least this show was geared towards adults. Adults should either know better and understand this is meant to be over the top or are too stupid to get it and therefore are a waste of my time to try to explain. Veggie Tales, however, are another story. I still turn red thinking about the portrayal of pagans as outlined in the story of St. Patrick. THIS is geared at children and it annoys the heck out of me. "Oh great and mighty twig" is beyond stereotypical and horrendously innacurate. "Dumbing" something down for children is one thing, this is just blatant disrespect. I've not seen any decent pagan role models on tv, kind of a shame. The women on the wife-swap shows don't count either.

On another note we've got something funky going around. Headache and fever are the primary symptoms with Finn being hit the hardest so far. On a positive note, perhaps this is the cause of my mild nausea, smell aversions, general exhaustion instead of pregnancy. I'll keep you all posted.

I'm off to bed so I have a chance of functioning tomorrow.

This post has me wondering if I've seen *any* positive Pagan portrayals in TV/movies.
Maybe Kiki's delivery service. Well come to think of it, all of Miyazaki's films.
That's too bad about King of the Hill, but then again, at least they mock everybody.
